Special summer coaching camps for Kabaddi and Volleyball are drawing large participation from students across rural areas of Markapuram district. Sports officials are focusing on traditional games that have strong popularity in Andhra Pradesh, with selected athletes expected to compete in upcoming state-level championships. The program is part of broader efforts to improve sports participation and infrastructure in the region.

The Markapuram District Cricket Association has announced the start of inter-mandal cricket competitions, with teams from Markapuram, Cumbum, Giddalur, Yerragondapalem, and Pullalacheruvu participating. The tournament aims to identify talented players for district and state-level selections. Local cricket enthusiasts have welcomed the initiative as a boost for youth sports development in the district.

Several state-level tournaments in volleyball, badminton, athletics, and cricket are being conducted across Andhra Pradesh during June 2026, providing opportunities for young players from Markapuram district to participate and showcase their talent.

The Andhra Pradesh government continues to strengthen sports infrastructure across the state. The newly inaugurated NTR Cricket Stadium in Tirupati is expected to boost cricket and youth sports development in the region, benefiting aspiring athletes from districts including Markapuram.

A grand International Yoga Day program was organized at SVKP College in Markapuram. District Collector M. Vijaya Sunitha, local officials, students, and citizens participated in yoga sessions promoting health and fitness. The event was part of the statewide “Yogandhra” initiative.

Chirala: The Combined Annual Training Camp–I (CATC–I), organised under the aegis of the 23 Andhra Pradesh Battalion NCC, commenced at St Ann’s College of Engineering & Technology here, on Tuesday. Inaugurating the camp, Camp Commandant Colonel Gopal Tripathi highlighted the significant role of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) in shaping disciplined, patriotic, and responsible citizens. Addressing the cadets, he said that NCC training plays a crucial role in developing leadership qualities, self-confidence, discipline, and a spirit of service among youth. Encouraging cadets to make the most of the training opportunities, Colonel Tripathi described the camp as an important platform for selecting participants for the prestigious Thal Sainik Camp (TSC), one of the most respected NCC events in the country. Deputy Camp Commandant Lieutenant Colonel NS Parmar briefed cadets on the camp schedule and training modules.
